The first arrivals from Friday 14th July 2017. The Raptors arrived earlier in the week but were out on a sortie first thing in the morning.

The highlight of the show for me was the Ukrainian Air Force Sukhoi SU-27 Flanker. Quite a lazy display in terms of fast jets, and clearly nothing compared to some of the newer 5th and 6th generation fighters that seem to be everywhere in the sky at once, especially the Rafale and Typhoon displays from this year’s show. Nevertheless the SU-27 is big and powerful and the Ukrainians put on a great display with this jet.
For those that haven’t been up close to an A400 you might think the A400M is a small aircraft from watching this display. It isn’t!
The best moments in this video for me are the dive at 1:50 and the turn rate at 3:00. Simply stunning.

It’s pretty rare than the USAF display team make a visit to the UK, but they made it over for RIAT 2017. The team fly the F-16 Fighting Falcon and on this display they were flying an F-16D in there as well as the single seat F-16C.

This German Air Force Tornado ECR from TG-51 (Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 51) Tigers encountered a huge flock of birds right on the approach at the eastern end of RAF Fairford’s runway.
The birds took of a few minutes earlier and caught a thermal that took them right into the flightpath of the oncoming aircraft. Thankfully the pilot saw them in time and was able to climb out over them and return a few minutes later to make a safe landing.
